The Rotary Club of Ely is proud to support Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, an organisation that provides specialist care, comfort and support to people living with life-limiting illnesses and those closest to them.
In 2023, the club organised a special fundraising concert in Ely Cathedral, bringing together the renowned London Welsh Male Voice Choir and Waterbeach Brass for an unforgettable evening of music. The event attracted a full audience and showcased a diverse programme ranging from traditional Welsh choral works to contemporary compositions and locally inspired pieces.
Set against the magnificent backdrop of Ely Cathedral, the concert celebrated the power of music to inspire, unite and create lasting memories. Highlights included performances of well-loved Welsh songs, a moving solo rendition of Somewhere from West Side Story, and a specially written composition telling the story of Waterbeach through music. The evening concluded with the audience joining the performers in a stirring rendition of the Welsh National Anthem.
The event was organised in support of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, whose work touches the lives of countless individuals and families across Cambridgeshire. The charity provides compassionate care and a wide range of services designed to improve quality of life, while also supporting loved ones through difficult times.
Music plays an important role in the charity's work, helping people connect with emotions, memories and experiences in ways that words sometimes cannot. The success of the concert demonstrated how communities can come together through shared experiences to support vital local services.
The Rotary Club of Ely is grateful to the performers, sponsors, volunteers and audience members whose generosity helped make the event such a success. Their support contributed to the ongoing work of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and helped ensure that compassionate care remains available to those who need it most.
