Our Causes
Dictionaries for Life
Dictionaries for Life is a Rotary initiative that provides dictionaries to primary school children, helping to improve literacy, confidence and a lifelong love of learning.
Dictionaries for Life is a long-running Rotary project that aims to support literacy and education by giving dictionaries to children during their final year of primary school. The initiative helps pupils develop their vocabulary, improve their reading and writing skills, and gain confidence as they prepare for the transition to secondary education.
For many children, receiving their own dictionary is a memorable milestone. The resource encourages independent learning, curiosity and a greater understanding of language, while also supporting classroom learning and homework activities.
Rotary clubs across the United Kingdom and Ireland have distributed hundreds of thousands of dictionaries through the programme. By investing in literacy and education, Dictionaries for Life helps young people build skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
